In Setswana, “O Fetogile”
This phrase has history of haunting those of us who have moved away from home. ‘Home’ chooses not to accept the version of us that has had to rebuild in a different place to survive. When we insist on being authentic, showing and sharing how we have been reshaped by our experiences abroad, we often get told in a disapproving tone: ‘You have changed’, or, ‘You have forgotten where you come from’.
